R.I.P. Frank Frazetta
May the angels who greet you in your eternal sleep look just as you would have painted them. Your work has been and shall continue to be an inspiration to all fantasy lovers everywhere. Some of my favorite works were paintings you did for covers of paperback’s. I have a couple of your books that show many prints you have done.
I’m one who believes Franks work shows the female form like it should look if in the dangerous environment and fantasy worlds. I enjoyed the imaginary trips my mind would rush through with every one of his paintings. Far off space worlds, swords and barbarian warriors, mystical places and science fictional worlds of technology and danger. Curvy and beautiful ladies either fighting or in distress with heroes wielding massive weapons and fighting for life and honor.
He also did a full length movie called Fire and Ice based on a few of his paintings. I forget where I heard it, but I understand he drew most of the cells himself do to “issues” with the ‘tweeners’. He can be found on magazine covers, movie posters, various comic books, and several fantasy novel covers. He is most well known for his rendition of Conan the Barbarian and a painting he did called Death Dealer. He also had work appear on Molly Hatchet album covers.
He Started painting very young and working on comics at the early age of 16. Most of his early comic work was western and horror in genre. Throughout his career his style of drawing and painting has been unique.
I wish his family and friends as well as all us fans strength in this time of mourning. Rest in peace Frank Frazetta February 9, 1928 – May 10, 2010
